BOUDOIR make-up tips

Booked a boudoir session? Oui! Oui!

Since you’ll be doing your own hair and make-up we have a few suggestions we’d like to share to make sure your look is on point the day of. Note that HD cameras capture a lot more than what our eyes can see, with that being said here are a few tips based on our experience photographing a sea of women:

  • OVERALL: Go for natural with an ooomph! Use foundation/coverage that is enough to cover under eyebags or impurities, go for just a tiny tad heavier than your day to day look.

  • FOUNDATION: We typically use air brush foundation for a not so matte but a hint of dewiness to match the look of your natural skin. Blend make-up really well and make sure your face make-up hue matches your neck/body. Remember that we are photographing your body from head to toe, that means you want a seamless look.

  • HARD PASS ON CONTOURING: Please do NOT do contouring but rather go for highlights. A nice soft glow captures the light and creates beautiful highlights on your skin. Contouring will look like heavy shadows/bruising after post production (we increase contrast on all our images).

  • EYES: Avoid intense or a heavy eyeliner look, we want your eyes to pop and sometimes make-up can be overpowering that it takes the focus away from your natural beauty. Avoid eyeliner under the eyes as it makes eyes look smaller, go for the top lid instead if you prefer to have an eyeliner. Ensure that the mascara or eyeliner used are smudge proof.

  • YES TO LASHES: Loooove lashes, gurrrl go crazy — okay not too crazy. Go for a softer more wispy lashes, use individual lashes if possible as it photographs the best.

  • HAIR: Make sure your hair will hold its volume or look throughout the shoot. I suggest a soft hold product/spray if you are adding some beach waves. I will ask you to work and run through your hair the entire shoot. With all the posing and moving you’ll be doing, you need some product to keep your hair looking fabulous!

Overall, we want you to feel like yourself even after your hair and makeup is done. If you feel like you can go out for a date or drinks with your gal pals after your shoot without washing off all your makeup then your look is on point.

Hope this helps! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and we’d be more than happy to help!
